Emmie de Kock:
De Kock Attorneys is owned and operated by Emmie de Kock. She founded De Kock Attorneys in February 2005. She is a qualified attorney of the High Court of South Africa and specialises in Intellectual Property Law, with special reference to trade marks, copyright and domain names. In this regard, she has extensive experience in managing intellectual property portfolios of businesses in a variety of industries, including pharmaceutical, cosmetic, financial, IT, publishing, training, travel, foodstuffs, cleaning, mining, and engineering. She also specialises in Information Technology law matters, in particular relating to software and internet agreements.
She obtained the degrees BLC (cum laude) and LLB (cum laude) from the University of Pretoria. During her law studies, she also completed a post-graduate course in Publishing which included subjects such as Design & Production, Information Technology and Publishing Management. While studying, she joined Spoor & Fisher and later served her articles of clerkship at the same firm.
Her trade mark practice is split between trade mark prosecution and litigation. She also drafts and consults on agreements relating to copyright, software, publishing, websites, IP licences and franchising. She further has a keen interest in data protection and information laws.
Samantha Gregory:
Dr Samantha Gregory is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, a registered medical practitioner and a qualified patent attorney. She holds the degrees of MBChB and LLB. She deals with patent and design matters on a consultancy basis.
She served articles at the firm of Hahn & Hahn in Pretoria before consulting to the Innovation Fund and general legal firms on IP matters. She deals with inventions in all technology fields and has a special interest in medical and related innovation.
She is a member of LES (Licensing Executives Society of South Africa) and has a keen interest in the commercialisation of South African Intellectual Property and has attended various workshops on the subject. She also has an interest in the management of intellectual property in health research and development and is a member of SARIMA.
Dominic Steyn:
Dominic Steyn is an admitted attorney with right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa. He holds the degrees BProc LLB and has extensive experience in general, commercial, corporate and intellectual property law and related litigation.
Dominic has been practicing for over 12 years. As a junior attorney he obtained extensive experience and exposure to commercial and intellectual property law matters, while running successful practices at Evershed (formerly known as Routledge-Modise Inc) (1999-2002), Adams & Adams (2002-2003) and Spoor & Fisher (2003-2005).
He acted as a consultant to the Department of Trade and Industry (“DTI”) from 2005 until 2007. This position included advisory services to the Minister and Exco on Company and Intellectual Property law. From 2007 until 2009, he acted as a consultant for the Department of Public Enterprises. This position included drafting, vetting and interrogation of legal commercial and financial transactions agreements and documents arising in particular the industries of forestry, mining, telecommunications and manufacturing.
In 2009, he started his own successful attorneys firm under the name and style DJ Steyn Attorneys. In 2010, he was approached by Stegmanns Inc and joined as a director and head of Commercial and Commercial Litigation Department. He assists with commercial matters on a consultancy basis.
Kirsten-Lee Dinnes:
Kirsten-Lee Dinnes is a registered patent attorney and holds the degree of Biological Sciences specialising in Genetics, Physiology, Psychology and Pharmacology; and the degree of LLB. She is currently a student member of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law.
Kirsten-Lee completed her articles of clerkship with Dr Samantha Gregory Attorneys and deals in all matters relating to design and patent law on a consultancy basis. Her services include the drafting, preparation, filing and prosecution of local and foreign design and patent applications.
Bronwyn Morris:
Bronwyn is a paralegal and has completed her LLB at the University of Pretoria in 2011. She has years of experience as a trade mark searcher and has previously worked for Spoor & Fisher and Sorita Pullin. She specialises in trade mark searches, filings and prosecution. She is a student member of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law. She also deals with Franchise Agreements and Entertainment Agreements.
Stella Bowen:
Stella is our Formalities Manager and is responsible for the administration of registration of trade marks, patents, designs, companies and domain names. She also assists with foreign searches and filings.
